The Devil’s Rejects (2005) Review:
The second episode of the adventure of the crazy Firefly family (crazy is too mild, let say demented) is a great one! This movie is extremely entertaining for whoever likes splatter, and alternative well funny moments with really tense action and gore.
I really like the new characters introduced in that movie, Charlie the pimp, the Mexican mercenaries (with the charismatic presence of Danny Trejo!) and above all, Sheriff Wydell, by far my favourite character, he adds an extra level of madness to the movie…but a complex one, since he is supposed to be the good guy but ends up being the craziest of all the characters.
As for “”House of 1000 Corpses”, this movie is really sadistic and will tickle your sense of unease. The family spends most of their time abusing complete innocents, and that really makes the viewer feels quite uncomfortable…but as soon as you start hating these guys for that, the movie twists and somehow shows them as the victim and almost the hero of the story! This emotional up and down is really confusing. From what I understand, many disliked the movie because of this… but I personally found it a fascinating aspect of the film.
As for its first movie, Zombie’s “The Devil’s Rejects” is a love it or hate it, it is violent, low-morale and ruthless…but also a sequel better than the original!
